Since all of the SaaS solutions started popping up, I’ve been a fan. I absolutely LOVE the concept of working, without doing the work. Or, in other words: IT operations is seldomly the core of a lot of businesses. It’s something they need, to be able to compete, to work efficiently and not get left behind. If something’s not at the core of what you do, then why do it more than needed ?
If it doesn’t directly rake in the money, you probably shouldn’t spend too much time or energy doing it. Or at least do it enough that it supports your business well, but not enough that it becomes a major cost center.
Enter: SaaS services. Services you can sign up to, pay for, and start working with – and not worry about whatever IT infrastructure is used behind the scenes. All you need to worry about is: Can you get your data, is the hosting centre used actually certified in any way, is your data safe, does it play nice with your enterprise, and most of all – is it usable and worth the money ?
